It's the long-awaited anti-austerity blast-a-thon with the teeth, venom, and one-of-a-kind music of Jello Biafra & the Guantanamo School of Medicine!
Full-length #2 picks up where the Shock-u-py! EP left off! Covered in gruesome detail this time are corruption ("The Brown Lipstick Parade", "Werewolves of Wall Street," "Road Rage,") and corporate McMedia making pop stars out of small-time crooks to shield the big ones ("John Dillinger") or tabloid pop stars to lobotomize everyone else ("Hollywood Goof Disease"). The title track shines a light on our never-ending foreign-policy disasters in ways even Jello's spoken word albums never did. "Crapture" is the perfect song to play for those lovely "End Times" believers, pointing out how much better the world will be when they leave and we're "Left Behind"- with melodies on the scale Biafra hasn't really touched since "Moon Over Marin."
Above all, this rocks! No pop-punk here. Just Jello and crew taking punk fire in a wide variety of directions few ever try, with wall-of-sound, in-your-face production from Marshall Lawless and Matt Kelley (lots of Jello projects, Hieroglyphics, The Coup, Digital Underground, Zen Guerrilla, Victims Family). Lineup retains the double-barreled guitar attack of Ralph Spight (Victims Family, Freak Accident) and Kimo Ball (Freak Accident, Griddle, Mol Triffid). They are joined this time by bassist Andrew Weiss (Rollins Band, Ween, Butthole Surfers, more) and drummer Paul Della Pelle (Helios Creed, Nik Turner's Space Ritual, and Philly HC legends Ruin).
Winston Smith's cover image is hard to forget and hard to ignore- one of his best in years!
The live shows are the real deal. If you like OFF! or Dead Ending, for crying out loud don't miss this!
After 30 plus years, Jello Biafra's music and lyrics remain in a class of their own. This is his 1st concept album since "Frankenchrist." Ask anyone buying a Dead Kennedys album to check this out before they leave the store and they won't be disappointed.
Sick of the Tea Party? This is for you.
Sick of formula retro-punk too chicken to take chances? This is for you.
This is not just an Age of Austerity album. It is THE Age of Austerity album!
"As if standing before a carnival mirror White People and the Damage Done is a reflection of the twisted shapes and pedestals we and the media surround ourselves with, but bent bend and shaped back into the often shocking clarity of the morbidity they truly are. Throw in an almost embarrassment of riches of riffs and rhythm, sound and soul turned up to 11 and served in generous slices with plenty of filling to ruminate upon and you've got perhaps the most musically fulfilling album released this year."
