This raucous live double album was originally issued in 2005 as a fan club CD and later reissued on Smooch, and has never been on wax! Re-mastered for optimum vinyl enjoyment, these songs span the first 12 years of SCAC's career- and the gatefold LP includes a vinyl-only full-size 8-page play that includes the lyrics.
Recorded by Absinthe Studios' Bob Ferbrache (16 Horsepower, Blood Axis) at Denver's lovely Gothic Theater in August 2004, Jesus Let Me Down captures the band's CD release show for the The Bloudy Tenent Truth Peace studio album. The songs are interspersed with Slim and Munly's banter and on stage antics, collected field recordings from camcorders and camera phones edited together by Ferbrache (Alternative Tentacles leader Jello Biafra is audible).
This is Slim Cessna returning to the vintage line-up after their Providence line-up. Jesus Let Me Down contains some radically different versions of songs from The Bloudy Tenent Truth Peace, such early arrangements of "Ladies in the Know" and "Jesus In My Body-My Body Has Let Me Down" (studio versions of which appear on Cipher).
SCAC is the very definition of a "live band," more thrilling than the latest IMAX or 3D spectacle, and much more sweat-soaked! Brand New!
"Recorded live in 2004 at the Gothic Theater in Denver at a show celebrating the release of their latest record The Bloody Tenent Truth Peace, this is two full hours of wild and rambunctious, catchy and creepy country swamp rock revival, featuring tracks from all the Slim Cessna records as well as a couple of brand new tracks! For those of you new to Slim Cessna imagine some bastard mix of the Old 97's, Sixteen Horsepower, Uncle Tupelo and X, all whipped up into a hillbilly punk rock swamp folk country dirge din! Super clever, funny lyrics (think the Decemberists with a more backwoods bent) delivered with the fervor of a preacher testifying in a moth eaten tent sent up in a field in some God forsaken backwater, while the band whips up a furious bluegrass hoedown, moody and melancholy, replete with lap steel and banjo, all flecked with punk rock fury, and even the occasional country yodel! This is just the sort of rare and glorious show you can't even remember the next day, the only hints being your sweat soaked, mud caked clothes, your bruised and battered body, your black eye and split lip, the fact that you're laying on the floor in a pool of stale beer, vomit, moist sawdust and broken barstools, you smell of being bodily dipped into a vat of grain alcohol, there's lipstick all over you face and collar, and your ears are ringing so loudly you can barely think straight. So fucking awesome!" - Aquarius
