04/07/15: Jello Biafra Announces Upcoming New Orleans Soul, Rhythm & Blues, Garage Live Album!
At last! The long rumored sweat-soaked live album from the night Bill Davis (Dash Rip Rock) and Fred Le Blanc (Cowboy Mouth) dared Jello Biafra to join them during Jazzfest and sing all classic New Orleans soul, rhythm and blues, and at Jello's request) garage songs! Titled "A Walk On Jindal's Splinters" the LP/DC/Digtial album is due out May 12th on Alternative Tentacles Records!
Joining in were piano Wildman Pete "Wet Dawg" Gordon (Mojo Nixon), Pepper Keenan (Down, Corrosion of Conformity), and a wacky horn section from Egg Yolk Jubilee and Morning 40 Federation, that even includes a sousaphone!
A great time was had by all, and the recording was train wreck! Enter Ben Mumphrey, the studio wizard behind so many Frank Black albums as well as so many others (including Dash Rip Rock). Ben called Jello, saying he was at the show, loved it, and thought he could rescue the multi-track recording. The result may go down as one of the all-time great "You Are There" high-energy live albums. Audience participation galore, plenty of trademark Jello banter, and full-on Soul/Trash/Frat/Garage gumbo from 11 of New Orleans' finest, just playing their asses off, and having a good time doing it.
You want loose? We got loose! You want crazy? That's here too. At last here's a whole other side of Jello Biafra and his own deep pre-punk roots known only to a certain vinyl junkies and anyone lucky enough to catch his DJ gigs. For all those whose interest in Jello goes beyond the punk persona to Jello Biafra, the singer, this is for you, because you have NEVER heard anything like this!
Maximum trash appeal! Southern roadhouse debauchery at it's finest! Calls to mind those sing-a-long, clap-a-long Frat-Rock platters from The Premiers to The Kingsman to Geno Washington's "Hipsters, Flipsters..." series, Swingin' Medallions, or even "Slade Alive!"
You can almost feel the grease and voodoo dripping from the walls!
Released in advance of the full length album, and rejected by Record Store Day for being too much to handle, we have a big hole 7" record featuring two songs from that legendary concert! "Fannie Mae" and "Just A Little Bit" will give you a taste of what is to come! In stores everywhere on April 14th, you can pre-order it HERE now and get it before the street date!
