Alternative Tentacles is proud to present the first-ever complete, three volume, reissue of Texas Punk legends, REALLY RED. None of their catalog has been available for years - some not for decades! This collection will be our first release of the new year and the three vinyl LP's and double CD set will be in stores everywhere on January 20th.

REALLY RED was the backbone of Houston's underground from the early punk era clear through 80's hardcore. Like The Dicks in Austin, they directly challenged an insanely violent policed department at no small risk to their own lives. Their sound itself had more art and post-punk elements then most, with a musical and lyrical depth on par with bands like Mission of Burma, Wire, or Dead Kennedys. Singer Ronnie Bond (U-Ron Bondage) was never afraid to push intelligence or mess with Texas in general. Kelly Younger's guitar style is as unique in it's own way as the Gang of Four. Couple that with Bob Weber's taut, precise, and sometimes unorthodox drum patterns that would not be heard again until John Wright of No Means No. This is all driven forward by the constant pumping elastic bass of John Paul Williams. This collection presents the sound better then it has ever been, so hear them again for the first time - or the first time EVER.

Alternative Tentacles will be releasing this as a three part LP vinyl collection.

Virus 454 "Volume 1: Teaching You The Fear" is the much loved first album that's been unavailable since Empty Records reissued it 10 years ago. More manic and locked-in then the early singles, this is REALLY RED in their prime; fired up and focused to lay down what they likely thought was their one shot to get it all on vinyl.

Virus 455 "Volume 2: Rest In Pain" is at last, the long lost second album that hardly any of the REALLY RED fans back then knew existed! Unavailable for almost 30 years, now all tracks are restored for the first time ever, with vastly improved sound.

The Sound is fiercer and heavier, but still vintage REALLY RED. Now the damage of Reagan was now in everyone's face, and the music was the only thing about the 80's that didn't suck.

Virus 456 "Volume 3 "News Strings For Old Puppets" could be the sleeper hit of the bunch. Here in one place are all the highly sought after REALLY RED 7"s, plus more from the early days that's never been released in ANY form until now.

Starts with the KBD cult classic "Modern Needs" and the even rarer "Crowd Control" singles, followed by an unlikely punk cover of Petula Clark's "Downtown". Finally seeing the light for the first time is "Little Death", the song Jello wanted for the Alternative Tentacle's compilation "Let Them Eat Jellybeans", that only survived on a cassette he found in his vaults.

Then it's on to the hardcore era and the "New Strings..." EP itself. Then a final rewind to the live songs originally released as the "Official Bootleg". Despise Moral Majority". The sound is dramatically improved, and it ain't a muddy bootleg anymore!

For CD buyers, Virus 457 "Teaching You The Fear: The Complete Collection 1978-1985" has it all here in one double-disc set. The classic "Teaching You The Fear" LP, the long-lost second album, "Rest In Pain", and plus all their sought-after 7"s, and some unreleased gems to boot.

A true classic band of it's time- or any time. Restored and re-mastered by Jello Biafra to sound better then ever!

09/04/07: AT Legal Defense Fund closes
The Alternative Tentacles Legal Defense Fund has been closed. It was begun in the mid-1980s to help defend The Dead Kennedys and Alternative Tentacles from out-of-control censorious authorities who objected to the H.R. Giger poster included with the final Dead Kennedys studio album, Frankenchrist. You can hear Jello's take on that infamous trial on his 2nd spoken word release High Priest Of Harmful Matter. Funds later supported Jello Biafra and Alternative Tentacles against the Faux Kennedys in 2000-2004.

The cool cats over at Truth On Tees produced the rockin' Bush America as a fundraiser for both the ATLDF and Greg Palast Investigative Fund.

Thank you to everyone who has supported the Fund over the years!
